Product Definitions

Badder -  A dab whipped into the texture of cake batter or frosting. It can be made from any

cannabis plant material, such as shake, small buds, cured nugs or fresh, flash-frozen

nugs (live resin).

BHO -
Butane hash oil. The plant material or hash is extracted with the solvent butane to

produce budder, shatter or wax. BHO has a high THC concentration, so recommend it

to new consumers rarely and with caution.

Blunts -
Cannabis cigars that can hold multiple grams of ground flower. They are a step up in

size from a joint or pre-roll. Historically they were made by altering a tobacco cigar.

Now they are often made with hemp wraps or even banana leaves.

Bubble hash -
A concentrate made with ice water. The name comes from the way the finished

product bubbles when heated. It tends to have lower THC content than wax or live

resin and a stronger terpene profile. Also called water hash or ice water hash.

Budder -
A concentrate made with butane, alcohol or water as the solvent, and sometimes by

CO2 extraction. The oily extract is heated to about 100 degrees under added

pressure. The result often has a golden hue and a light, fluffy consistency.

Cannagar -
From "cannabis" and "cigar." A cigar made from cannabis instead of tobacco. It looks like a large blunt and is rolled in a carefully cured hemp or cannabis fan leaf instead of

tobacco-based papers or wraps.

Cartridge -
A cylinder-shaped vaporizer device pre-filled with cannabis concentrate. The top has a mouthpiece. The bottom screws into a battery that powers the heating element. See

also Vape carts.

Concentrates -
Also called extracts or dabs. Oils extracted from the cannabis plant that hold more cannabinoids than flower. Each type is processed differently, based on the plant

material used and the desired product. Types include diamonds, wax, shatter, budder,

crumble and more.

Crumble -
A concentrate with a dry, malleable, fragmented appearance. Crumble, or honeycomb wax, can be used as a bowl topper on flower. It can be handled with the fingers

because it does not stick to skin like other concentrates.

Diamonds -
A term for crystalline THCA, a clear cannabinoid that looks like a gem or precious

stone. Diamonds are sold alone or paired with a terpene sauce for more flavor and a

fuller effect.

Dissolvables -
Water-soluble cannabis products that dissolve in the mouth. Like cannabis beverages, they typically have a quick onset. They come as tablets or powders.

Distillate -
A viscous oil extracted from cannabis and distilled further to remove other plant

compounds and concentrate one cannabinoid, usually CBD or THC. Distillate can be

dabbed, vaporized, or used to make edibles and topicals.

Dose -
A quantity of cannabis inhaled, ingested or otherwise administered. Edibles are the

easiest products to dose because they are measured in milligrams (mg) of cannabinoids such as THC or CBD. Joints, bowls and dabs are harder to dose because one hit is hard to quantify.

Edibles -
Infused cannabis products that are eaten. Effects start later and last longer than with

inhaled products. New York labels warn that effects may be delayed by 4 or more

hours.

Flower -
Smokable, trichome-covered cannabis buds. Flower is the most popular form of cannabis because of its legacy and versatility.

Full melt -
High-grade dry sieve or water hash that melts fully and leaves no residue or char. Full-melt hash is highly refined.

Hash -
Short for hashish. A resinous extract made from trichomes. It can look similar to kief,

and both come from trichome heads. Hash is typically compressed into small squares

and can bubble when heated.

Infused flower -
Smokable cannabis coated in concentrates, which raises its cannabinoid content.

Infused joint -
A pre-roll with a concentrate added. The concentrate is applied to the outside or rolled inside. Common additions are bubble hash, kief and wax.

Joint -
A cannabis cigarette rolled in thin rolling paper.

Kief
- The golden crystals that fall off cannabis flower when it is sifted. They come from trichome heads. The powder can be used to top bowls of flower.

Live resin -
A concentrate made from fresh, flash-frozen plant material, which keeps the plant as close to "live" as possible. The material retains more terpenes than dried and cured

material, and those terpenes carry into the oil. It is vaporized, or combined with flower and smoked.

Live rosin -
A solventless concentrate made from fresh-frozen cannabis. The frozen material is

pressed with heat and pressure in a rosin press to release the oil. "Live" means frozen

plants were the source. When dried material is used, the product is just rosin.

Moon rocks -
Doubly infused flower. Cured buds are coated with oil and rolled in powdery kief.

Oil A liquid concentrate extracted with alcohol or CO2. It can be smoked, vaped or ingested.

PHO - Propane hash oil. A concentrate that uses propane as the extraction solvent.

Pre-rolls Ready-made joints. Ground cannabis is wrapped tightly in paper. The user lights one end and inhales from the other.

Pressed hash -
Compressed trichomes separated from cannabis flower by a variety of methods. It is easy to transport and consume. Many consumers describe the effect as heavy.

Resin The sticky substance secreted by the plant's trichomes. Trichomes are glands, mainly

on the buds that hold the plant's cannabinoids and terpenes. Resin protects the plant

from UV light and pests and makes cannabis sticky.

Rosin
- A concentrate made without solvents, using heat and pressure. The result is an oil

with a consistency similar to peanut butter. Rosin is also used to fill high-end vape

cartridges.

RSO (Rick SimpsonOil) -
Named for Canadian cannabis activist Rick Simpson. A highly concentrated oil typically sold in a syringe. It is decarboxylated, so it needs no heat to activate and can be eaten directly.

Sauce -
A viscous, sticky concentrate with a high terpene content that makes it runny and

flavorful. Also called terpene sauce. It is categorized as a high-terpene full-spectrum

extract (HTFSE).

Shake -
Plant material that falls off cured buds during weighing or moving. Producers often use it to make pre-rolls.

Shatter -
A hard concentrate that is lower in terpenes, easy to handle and "shatters" apart. It is

transparent and amber, glassy when cold and like thick honey when warm. Transparency and color vary with the moisture and heat used in extraction.

Sublinguals -
Cannabis oils placed under the tongue, where they dissolve quickly for a fast onset. They are packaged like tinctures or sold as sprays.

Sugar -
An extract that looks like wet brown sugar. Sugar wax is made like shatter, but the product is agitated to create a fragmented texture.

Tinctures -
Liquid cannabis extracts in alcohol, glycerin, oil or sugar-syrup bases. Tinctures are

taken orally. They usually act faster than edibles and do not last as long, because

tissue under the tongue and in the mouth absorbs cannabinoids directly.

Topicals -
Lotions, massage oils, bath bombs and other products applied to the skin. Most

topicals do not enter the bloodstream, so they are generally not intoxicating. Do not tell

a customer how a topical will affect a drug test.

Transdermal patches -
Unlike most topicals, transdermal patches deliver cannabinoids into the bloodstream. Patches are applied to a veiny area of skin with little friction for longer wear. They

release cannabinoids slowly and steadily, typically over 8 to 12 hours.

Vape carts -
Short for vape cartridges. Also called carts. Vaping is more discreet than smoking a joint. Many consumers describe the effect as lighter than edibles.

Water hash -
Also called bubble hash or ice water hash. It is made by using ice and water to separate trichome heads from plant matter.

Wax -
An agitated extract with a waxy appearance. A lighter hue and softer consistency indicate higher quality.
